                      Product Overview

                      MAX3232CWE+ is a 3.0V to 5.5V, low-power, up to 1Mbps, true RS-232 transceiver using four 0.1µF external capacitors. This transceiver has a proprietary low-dropout transmitter output stage enabling true RS-232 performance from a 3.0V to 5.5V supply with a dual charge pump. This device requires only four small 0.1µF external charge pump capacitors. It has 2 receivers and 2 drivers. It features a 1µA shutdown mode that reduces power consumption and extends battery life in portable systems. Its receivers remain active in shutdown mode, allowing external devices such as modems to be monitored using only 1µA supply current. It is used in applications such as notebook, subnotebook, and palmtop computers, high-speed modems, battery-powered equipment, hand-held equipment, peripherals, printers.

                      • VCC power-supply current is 1mA maximum at (no load, VCC = 3.3V or 5.0V, TA = +25°C)
                      • Shutdown supply current is 1µA typical at (SHDN = GND, TA = +25°C)
                      • Input leakage current (logic inputs and receiver outputs) is ±1.0µA maximum
                      • Input resistance is 5Kohm typical at (VCC = +3.0V to +5.5V, C1–C4 = 0.1µF, TA = +25°C)
                      • Output leakage current (transmitter output) is ±25µA maximum at (TA = +25°C)
                      • Maximum data rate is 235Kbps typ at (RL = 3Kohm, CL = 1000pF, one transmitter switching)
                      • Receiver propagation delay is 0.3µs typical at (R-IN to R-OUT, CL = 150pF)
                      • Transition-region slew rate is 30V/µs maximum at (CL = 150pF to 1000pF)
                      • Operating temperature range from 0°C to +70°C
                      • 16-lead wide SO package
