Product Overview
MAX3485EESA+ is a ±15kV ESD-protected, +3.3V, low-power transceiver for RS-485 and RS-422 communications. This device contains one driver and one receiver. This device features enhanced electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection. All transmitter outputs and receiver inputs are protected to ±15kV using IEC 1000-4-2 AirGap Discharge, ±8kV using IEC 1000-4-2 contact discharge, and ±15kV using the human body model. Drivers are short-circuit current limited and are protected against excessive power dissipation by thermal shutdown circuitry that places the driver outputs into a high-impedance state. The receiver input has a fail-safe feature that guarantees a logic-high output if both inputs are open circuits. Applications include telecommunications, industrial-control local area networks, transceivers for EMI-sensitive applications, integrated services digital networks, packet switching.

- Supply current is 1.1mA typical at (no load, DI = 0 or VCC, DE = VCC, active-low RE = 0 or VCC)

- Receiver input hysteresis is 50mV typical at (VCM = 0, TA = +25°C)
- Receiver input resistance is 12Kohm minimum at (-7V ≤ VCM ≤ 12V)
- Driver short-circuit output current is -250mA maximum at (VOUT = -7V, TA = +25°C)
- Driver propagation delay, high-to-low level is 23ns typical at (RL = 27 ohm, TA = +25°C)
- Operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C
- 8-lead SO package
