What is a tantalum polymer capacitor?

A tantalum polymer capacitor is a type of electrolytic capacitor that uses a solid conductive polymer as the electrolyte instead of the traditional manganese dioxide. It has a tantalum anode and a tantalum oxide dielectric. Tantalum polymer capacitors have some advantages over other types of electrolytic capacitors, such as lower equivalent series resistance (ESR), higher ripple current capability, better frequency response, and longer lifetime.
